The matter was discussed at a recent Kildare County Council meeting

Bench upgrades, as well as the provision of a new pathway, have been sought for one South Kildare region.

The measures were brought to the attention of Kildare County Council (KCC) by Labour Party councillor Aoife Breslin at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, April 20 last.

Specifically, she asked KCC the following question: "Can KCC confirm when the upgrading of benches and provision of an accessible pathway at Barrow Quay, Athy will commence?"

In response to her query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "[The]Strategic Projects and Public Realm (SPPR) [team] are working with the Municipal District office to progress the ground preparation for the replacement benches."

KCC added: "Seating will be procured by SPPR and there is a lead-in time of up to 14 weeks with some suppliers."

Following this, Cllr Breslin told KCC that she accepted the report.placeholder image
