The planning permission application is currently with Kildare County Council

A number of significant changes have been proposed for a County Kildare nursing home for older people.

Larchfield Park Care Centre Limited is seeking planning permission from Kildare County Council (KCC) to make the changes to its facility, Larchfield Park Nursing Home, which is situated on the Monread Road in Naas.

According to the description contained in the application, the existing facility contains 63 bed spaces across 55 bedrooms, and Larchfield Park Care Centre Ltd wants to create 54 improved bed spaces across 46 bedrooms, all within the existing ground floor accommodation.

The applicant also intends to demolish 303 square metres of the facility in order to ‘facilitate the construction of an L-shaped single-storey extension to the rear which will contain 32 new resident bedrooms, all of which will be single occupant’.

Once completed, the proposed refurbished and extended facility, will contain a total of 86 bed spaces across 78 resident bedrooms.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The application also notes the following details in relation to the proposed redevelopment:

  • The existing building and new single-storey extension will create a landscaped courtyard for residents
  • A total of 4,274 sq. m of communal outdoor space would be provided overall
  • The existing building, which has a floor area of 2,411 sq m of which 303 sq m, would be demolished, in order to facilitate an extension which will add 1,426 sq m, bringing the total floor area of the completed development to 3,534 sq m
  • The overall accommodation would include day rooms, dining areas, physiotherapy and nursing facilities as well as individual bedrooms (the existing access will remain)
  • The provision of 34 parking spaces, including disabled spaces with 24 staff and visitor cycle parking spaces and two motorcycle spaces provided, along with a fire tender turning circle, is also being planned for the site

Lastly, permission is being sought from KCC for ‘all associated site development works, external plant rooms, landscaping, boundary treatments and other servicing works’.

The date received on the application is listed as October 21 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as November 24, 2026 and December 15, 2026 respectively.

The official Health and Information Quality Authority (HIQA) website shows that Larchfield Park Nursing Home Ltd also has branches in counties Dublin and Cork.

It also shows that the last inspection report for the centre took place back in March of this year, with the results published back in June.
