It follows arrests made by gardaí as part of an investigation into incidents of alleged dangerous driving, criminal damage and assault that occurred on Main Street, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare on Wednesday June 12 at approximately 8.45pm.
It’s alleged number of vehicles were damaged during the course of the incident as well as external damage to a building. It’s further alleged that two males and one female were assaulted though their injuries were understood to be non-life threatening.
A male aged in his 20s and a female juvenile (aged in her teens) were initially detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Following an initial appearance before a special sitting of the district court in Naas on June 15, a man was remanded in custody.
Evan Byrne, 28, whose address was given as 8 Rheban Manor, Athy, faces allegations of criminal damage, assault causing harm and endangerment at The Square, Main Street, Ballymore Eustace.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the case concerned a number of alleged incidents and robbery in the Blessington area.
He told Judge Desmond Zaidan that he did not have directions on how to proceed with the case because “a large number of incidents are under investigation” and he said there is a “large number of injured parties and witnesses.”
Judge Zaidan noted that the female had been in a residential care home and he got a peace commissioner to see that her rights were taken care of.
He noted that the female is 17 and he struck out the charge against her. He said it was a disgrace that the child could not be housed and added “Tusla (The Child and Family Agency) has a lot to answer for because no accommodation was available for her.”
The defendant, who is in custody and appeared in court via video link, had the case adjourned to July 4.
