Call for age friendly parking space is rejected by county council

Coucillor is 'disappointed' at decision
Kildare County Council says it won’t provide an age friendly parking space in Naas town centre.
The request came from Cllr Anne Breen who asked the council to approve one for Poplar Square beside the disabled parking spaces.
She said she was disappointed at the council’s reluctance and said there are a number of retailers in the area.
Cllr Bob Quinn said the town is “chronically clogged up” with cars but he said more spaces are needed for people with reduced mobility.
KCC engineer Donal Hodgins commented that Poplar Square is a place where inappropriate parking takes place.
He pointed out that infringements of disabled space use can be dealt with but he indicated that the enforcement of the use of age friendly spaces is less clear because there is no legal provision to cover this.
“It is recommended that careful consideration be given to maximising the self-enforcement of such spaces,” he said.
