The traffic plan in Newbridge must be addressed as soon as possible.

Councillors across the political spectrum made the call for action at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, September 20.

Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender called on Kildare County Council (KCC) to 'formally write to the National Transport Authority (NTA) advocating for the introduction of a town or orbital bus service in the Newbridge area highlighting the need for such a service to connect key KCC community hubs, including but not limited to, schools, healthcare facilities, shopping centres, and residential areas.'

Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender put forward the motion.

His sentiments were echoed by Independent Cllr Fiona McLoughlin-Healy, who appeared via video call, and said: "There needs to be an interim plan introduced to address the hideous traffic in Newbridge."

She also remarked that KCC officials 'should be made to drive through the town every day, in order to see how bad the traffic is.'

After the matter was put to a vote, the councillors agreed to write to the NTA regarding Cllr Pender’s motion.
