Kildare County Council has been asked to provide an update on the delivery timeline for Active Travel Projects in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

The council has been further called upon to identify measures to improve pedestrian and cycling connectivity between residential areas, schools, Celbridge town centre and public transport hubs.

Cathaoirleach of Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District, Cllr Rupert Heather (LAB) table his motion at a recent MD meeting, held on Friday, June 19 2026.

In its report, Kildare County Council stated that the Celbridge Active Travel Bridge detailed design is “near completion”, and land acquisition discussions are progressing.

The council stated that two bus-stops are to be delivered at Confey Cemetery/GAA over the summer, commencing in the coming weeks.

A pair of bus stops are also designed for Killelea, Celbridge, the council added, and will be delivered as part of a footpath widening project.

“Depending on resources”, the council concluded, it is hoped that this project will progress to procurement and possibly construction this year.
