Cllr Declan Ryan (FG) raised concerns for Crodaun Estate, Celbridge, Co Kildare

A Fine Gael councillor has called on the local authority to provide details on what protection is proposed for the homes in Crodaun Estate, Celbridge, Co Kildare, in light of deep excavation works being carried out by Uisce Éireann.

In his motion, tabled at a meeting of Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District held on Friday June 19 2026, Cllr Declan Ryan asked that this include “pre-condition surveys, vibration monitoring, structural oversight and remediation arrangements should damage occur.”

Speaking at the MD meeting, Cllr Ryan said a number of local councillors met Uisce Éireann recently, and he was “delighted” to say that Uisce Éireann met with the residents association and held a “very constructive meeting” with them.

He said he was also informed that Uisce Éireann is appointing an international expert to oversee the construction of Crodaun Estate.

He was still awaiting the minutes of the meeting to make sure “it's all agreed”, he said.

There were “one or two things to be ironed out”, he added, but the committee was “very happy with the way things were going.”

It was his hope, he said, that Uisce Eireann would “learn from the experience”, rather than have ongoing correspondence from local councillors over various issues of concern.

Cllr Claire O'Rourke (SD) welcomed the fact that Uisce Eireann had a meeting with residents, whom she said were “very concerned”, in particular the residents at the entrance to Crodaun Estate.

Already, she said, there had been a house which had to be totally reconstructed due to subsidence in the soil.

A report issued by the council stated: “This is an Uisce Éireann (UE) project and they are responsible for all works carried out.

“Any queries in relation to the project and construction methods should be directed to Uisce Éireann. Kildare County Council understands that Uisce Éireann have held a briefing with the elected members and also met with the resident representatives of Crodaun Estate, Celbridge to advise on the project.”
