COURT Man called a garda a 'paedo' and had to be restrained at Kildare concert

A man was verbally abusive and had to be restrained at a concert in County Kildare.

Nathan Johnston, 20, whose address was given as 58 Huband Road, Bluebell, Dublin 12, was prosecuted at Naas District Court for two breaches of the Public Order Act.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that the incident occurred at 8.30pm on April 17, 2022.

He said a garda sergeant was referred to as a “rat” and a “paedo”.

Sgt Hanrahan said the defendant had to be restrained.

Solicitor David Powderly said the defendant had lost his temper and was very apologetic.

The court heard that the defendant had 14 previous convictions, but none under the Public Order Act.

Most of the prior convictions were under the Road Traffic Act. Three were “foreign convictions”.

Judge John O’Leary remanded him on continuing bail to July 26 for a probation report on his suitability for community service in lieu of three months in prison.
