Crack cocaine and heroin with a combined street value of €6,600 was allegedly found by garda at a residence in Newbridge.

Before Naas District Court was David McKenna, 29 , whose address was given as 20 Oakland Grove, Dunmurry Road, Kildare town for possessing the drugs.

Garda Zoe McInerney told of arresting the defendant at Rowanvilla, Apartment One, Eyre Street, Newbridge, on November 14.

She arrested the defendant and added she allegedly found drug paraphernalia  and a flick knife, which she suspected was being used to “cut cocaine.”

Gda McInerney said the defendant was sitting at a table where the drugs were found.

Cross examined  by solicitor David Powderly, Gda McInerney said the defendant is a chronic drug addict and she added that there was too much drugs present for all of it to be for his own use,

She said she would rule out the defendant being a drug dealer.

The garda said bags and a scales were also found.

She also said the defendant had no previous convictions of having a drug for sale or supply.

Mr Powderly said there was no history of the defendant having a drug to sell or supply and said the drugs found were for his own use.

If granted bail, Mr Powderly said the defendant would live at home, turn up for court, observe a curfew and provide mobile phone details.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said the defendant is entitled to a presumption of innocence and to make a bail application, but he was satisfied there were sustainable grounds for refusing bail.
