GUILTY PLEA

A Naas District Court defendant was convicted on Thursday, July 18 last for refusing to provide a breath sample to gardaí.

Ciaran Dunne, with an address listed as 63 Barrettstown Lawns, Newbridge, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in the early hours of March 14 last at Newbridge Garda Station.

The court was told that the 33-year-old collided with another motorist in Barrettstown Lawns.

It was heard that he was suspected by gardaí on the date in question of driving his vehicle while intoxicated, but refused to provide a breath sample to gardaí when ordered to do so.

Mr Dunne has one previous conviction for drink-driving dating back to 2017.

Defending solicitor Cairbre Finan told substitute judge Nicola-Jane Andrews that his client was very apologetic to the other motorist over the collision.

Judge Andrews noted that Mr Dunne pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, and subsequently imposed a four-year disqualification on him.

She also fined him €300 and gave him six months to pay this fine.
