Driver in North Kildare arrested for drunk driving

The driver was arrested at Captain's Hill in Leixlip, Co Kildare
Naas Roads Policing Unit recently operated a mandatory intoxicant checkpoint at Captain's Hill, Leixlip, Co Kildare.
A total of 31 drivers were tested at the checkpoint.
One driver failed the roadside alcohol test and was arrested for drunk driving.
A further test at Leixlip Garda Station revealed the driver was over two times the legal limit.
The driver has been charged and will appear before the courts.
Penalties include a fine of up to €5,000 and a mandatory two year disqualification.
A garda spokesperson stated: “Never ever drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Meanwhile, Naas Roads Policing Unit detected 20 motorists over the weekend, all exceeding the 50 km/h limit in built-up areas.
Rathcoffey, Prosperous and Celbridge were all monitored for speeding, with speeds recorded of 77-93 km/h.
Each driver received:
-
€160 Fixed Charge Penalty
-
Three penalty points
A garda spokesperson said of the offences: “This isn’t 'a bit over.' This is dangerous, deliberate speeding where people live, walk, and cycle. But the real consequence could have been far worse.
“It could have been a child crossing the road, a cyclist heading home or a family out for a walk. Slow down. 50 means 50. Not 60. Not 80. Not 90. Respect the limit — or face the consequences.”
