The Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Council Arts Service came recently for the opening of Sound|Code|Image — a solo exhibition by Gavin Casey.

Artist and lecturer Patricia Hurl was present to officially open the exhibition.

Kildare based artist Gavin Casey investigates the intrinsic relationship between colour and sound, and its representation in art.

The exhibition features a virtual reality gallery, made possible by Oculus Quest headsets, kindly loaned by Kildare Library Service. Visitors can immerse themselves in the VR gallery during their visit — an experience not to be missed.

Visitors can also experience augmented reality through a camera filter created by Gavin, which offers a unique insight into the construction (and de-construction) of the artistic process.

The exhibition comprises twenty-three paintings in the McKenna Gallery and eleven paintings in the VR gallery.

Musician Rónán Ó Snodaigh has composed an original piece of music around one of the paintings which visitors can access via a QR code in the gallery.

Gavin will host drop-in tours tonight from 6pm to 9pm as part of Culture Night 2023.

Sound|Code|Image is supported by Kildare County Council Arts Service and Riverbank Arts Centre’s ‘Emerging Visual Artist Bursary Award’, which Gavin Casey was awarded in 2022.

Gavin is a multidisciplinary artist and has a formal education in Advertising and Design followed by a BA Fine Art (Painting/Graphics).

He has over two decades of experience working creatively in the post-production industry, compositing for film, broadcast and TV commercials.

Gavin returned to painting in 2021. A member of Visual Artist Ireland and Kildare Art Collective, he has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

This exhbition runs in the McKenna Gallery until Friday, October 27, Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5pm (closed 2-2:30pm) and Saturday 10am-1pm. Admission free. For more information please visit riverbank.ie
