KAN (Kildare Autism Network) recently welcomed Dermot Rafter, a highly experienced lecturer and behavior therapist to Lawlor's Hotel on Saturday 27th April 2024 to speak to parents on how best to support their children and young adults. Dermot who lectures in South East Technological University focused on helping parents to understand, prevent and respond to challenging behaviours.

In a lively and engaging manner Dermot shared his expertise gained over the course of his work supporting staff and young adults in a variety of settings. This event offered a valuable opportunity for parents to come together to learn and consider different strategies they might use to support their children and young adults.

Dermot placed a particular emphasis on the role of communication and self care for family members .

This event which was very well attended was free to parents and all costs incurred were met by KAN.

Thanks to all parents who attended on the day and for their positive contributions to the workshop.

The network is a completely voluntary organisation and welcomes all to join their network who have a concern about a family member. The network thanks all attendees who made donations to support this event and welcomes donations to support their ongoing work in this area.
