Kildare County Council criticised for refusing too many planning applications for houses

Too many planning permission applications for homes are being turned down  by Kildare County Council.

That’s the claim of local councillor Brendan Weld who said “people can’t get a house in their own county.”

Clr Weld sought information about the number of planning applications that were refused in Kildare.

He also said that applicants are being asked to provide reports at some expense when and are being turned down by the council.

And another councillor, Tim Durkan, said that not enough connections  are being made to link houses with swear treatment facilities and “it’s difficult to explain why houses are sitting empty because no connections are available.”

However KCC official Eoghan Ryan  said all planning applications are considered against the background of planning rules and guidelines including national policies, guidelines, the County Development Plan 2017-2023 and local area plans, where relevant.

And he also said that Irish Water has a role in the provision of treatment plants.

He also said it was a matter for individual developers to opt to build homes in advance of services benign available for these homes to avail of.

Mr Ryan also said that an investigation of all planning applications relating to housing for the past two years to determine whether appropriate services were in place would require a significant investment of time and resources.

He added that the particular zoning on a site is not an indication of whether a planning application on that site will be successful or not.
