Kildare court: Couple accused of storing suspected drugs haul in car have case sent forward for trial

CASE UPDATE
A couple who previously appeared before Naas District Court on Thursday, November 16, have been sent forward for trial.
Back in March, it was heard that the couple stand accused of possessing suspected cannabis worth an estimated €20,000.
After being told that their car crashed on the M7 on Valentine’s Day (February 14 last), Judge Desmond Zaidan commented at the time that they were 'lucky to be alive.'
He made the comments in relation to Hayley Kenny, 26, and David Leigh, 34, both of both of 20 O'Ginty, Garraun in County Kilkenny.
Gardaí present in court on the previous date accused the duo of possession of drugs with the intent of sale and supply, while Mr Leigh also faced an additional charge of dangerous driving.
It was alleged that the duo eventually flipped their own car over 'a few times.'
On the latest date, a book of evidence was served on both defendants by gardaí.
Following this, Judge Zaidan sent both Ms Kenny and Mr Leigh forward for trial to the next sittings of Naas Circuit Criminal Court.
These sittings will commence on January 16, 2024.
He remanded both defendants on continuing bail until the case resumes.
CRITICISM OF ERROR
The judge also criticised a spelling error on a court document involved in the case, in addition to a signature on the document.
He told gardaí: "Someone is not doing their job properly. I mean, seriously, it looks so unprofessional."
Judge Zaidan added: "The next time I get something like that, I’m striking it out.
"Basic mistakes keep on happening all the time (in the court)."
