A man has been sent for trial to Naas Circuit Court over an allegation of having images of young teenagers engaged in sexual activity on his phone.

The allegation was made at a sitting of Naas District Court.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said that information was received to the effect that child pornography was to be found on a phone at a house locally.

Before the court was a male in his 30s who has an address in Finglas, Dublin 11.

He is being prosecuted for alleged possession of child pornography at an address in Sallins on August 17, 2018.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said it will be claimed that the man had three short videos on his phone depicting 13-14 year olds engaged in sexual activity.

He also told the court that a garda had received information about the allegation.

Free legal aid was granted to the defendant and the court heard that he is originally from India.

The court was also told previously that there is no need for an interpreter.

Garda Jacinta O’Connor told Judge Desmond Zaidan that he has served a book of evidence on the defendant.
