Kildare dancers selected for Irish National Youth Ballet
Kildare is celebrating as two local dancers, Veronika Shpiro and Hollie Whitston, have earned spots in the Irish National Youth Ballet (INYB), the premier youth ballet company in Ireland.
Both dancers will represent the county in The Nutcracker, part of INYB’s 30th anniversary performances this December.
Veronika Shpiro, originally from Ukraine and now living in Celbridge, is entering her second year with INYB. Her ballet journey is supported by a part-scholarship funded by EBAY, though the company is seeking a sponsor to continue her funding this season. She trains locally with Grainne McArdle.
Joining her is Hollie Whitston, the youngest member of INYB this year at just age 9, marking her first season with the company. Hollie’s achievement highlights the emerging talent from Kildare.
Lindsay Ashe-Browne, Artistic Director of INYB, emphasises the rigorous selection process, stating: “You really do need to be among the best dancing talent on the whole island. The performance level is akin to elite athletics. The audition process is strict and competitive, and our dancers are highly trained.”
Funded by the Arts Council, INYB provides an unparalleled platform for young dancers, offering them the chance to train with internationally acclaimed teachers and perform in semi-professional productions. Many former members have gone on to professional ballet careers, and this opportunity gives Veronika and Hollie a strong foundation for their future in
dance.
Kildare’s community is invited to show their support as these talented dancers take the stage at Samuel Beckett Theatre in December, where The Nutcracker will launch INYB’s 30th-anniversary celebrations. The performances run from Friday, December 6th, to Sunday, December 8th, with matinee and evening shows.
This is a moment for Kildare to be proud of – a celebration of local talent, dedication, and the enriching cultural contributions our community brings to the national stage.
