Kildare GAA: Big day of championsip action

Champions, Naas, got their expected win over Eadestown in Clane but it was far from easy. Leading  by a point with eight minutes to go, Naas ramped it up a notch to punish an advancing Eadestown.

Emmet Bolton's side looking for an equaliser but saw three white flags head the other wasy as Darragh Kirawn, Neil Aherne and Alex Beirne all raised white flags.

Darragh Kirawn hit the net following a swift counter-attack in the 62 minute to put this result beyond any doubt.

Celbridge and Athy played an absolute classic contest in the final game at Manguard Park and while Athy led at the break 2-4 to 0-9, it was Athy who prevailed by a single point; a penalty in the 63 minute saw Niall Kelly leave one in it and the former county man had an opportunity to draw it with a free in the 65 minute from 44m out, but the ball drifted right and wide.

First half goals from Kevin Feely (penalty) and Colm Moran while the Celbridge green flag came from Killian Browne. Overall a brilliant game.

Elsewhere Raheens put up a remarkable score defeating St Laurence's 7-13 to 1-8 with two goals each from Paddy Woodgate and Gavin Thompson with Jack Taaffe, Killian Thompson and Dara Crowley the other goal scorers.

Johnstownbridge were far from impressive defeating Carbury by a single point, that despite only scoring a single point throughout the entire second half.
