The funding has been welcomed by Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister, Martin Heydon
Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, and the Marine, Martin Heydon has said that community groups and projects across Kildare will receive a total of €246,000 to assist with ongoing running costs under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026.
The Local Enhancement Programme 2026 is a source of funding that provides current and capital supports essential for the many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas.
Almost 4,500 community organisations around the country will receive funding, with a total of over 5,400 individual projects funded.
Minister Heydon said: “The Local Enhancement Programme is about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs, who are the building blocks of Irish community life. Since my appointment I have had the pleasure of visiting many of the community groups that will benefit from grants under the LEP – although small in nature the value of the projects funded to the groups are considerable.”
Continuing, Minister Heydon said: “I am particularly pleased to see so many worthwhile local organisations in Kildare benefit from this funding and wish to thank the Local Community Development Committee for their work in administering this fund.
“We have all benefitted in some way from the work carried out by our local organisations and community groups, with so many of the people involved giving their time voluntarily. Fine Gael and the Government is committed to supporting our local communities to shape their future and this funding will enable them to do that.”
