Walkers and sea kayakers from all around Ireland will be taking part in Adrian Harkin’s “Sea to Summit for MND” event to raise funds for MND research
On Saturday April 20, walkers and sea kayakers from all around Ireland will be taking part in Adrian Harkin’s “Sea to Summit for MND” event to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease research.
Adrian Harkin is one of the most well known and well loved people in adventure sports and the (river & sea) Kayaking community, who is currently living with Motor Neurone Disease and has established this upcoming fundraiser to to make a difference in the fight against MND.
The event has been organised to include the climbing of the highest hill or mountain in every county in Ireland. The island will also be circumnavigated by a large team of sea kayakers, all in the hope of raising €100,000.
As part of the coastal circumnavigation of Ireland, Kilcullen Canoe Club's Michael O'Farrell will be paddling the Dublin Bay section of the East coast and will lead a group of sea kayakers on this leg.
O'Farrell said, "When I paddled around Ireland in 2017, Adrian looked after me when I paddled around Adrian's part of Ireland - Inishowen peninsula. He not only provided bed and breakfast but gave invaluable guidance on how to deal with the treacherous currents around Mailin Head."
Other members of Kilcullen Canoe Club that are also participating are Helen Whiteley, who will lead a walk up the highest hill in Kildare, Cupidstown Hill. Oisin Farrell will travel to Louth to climb Slieve Foy and Sonja Farrell will go to Longford to climb Corn Hill.
