Kildare politician Senator Aubrey McCarthy said it was a “privilege” to meet Pope Leo XIV, the new pontiff, during a recent audience in Rome.

He took the opportunity to extend an invitation to Pope Leo to visit Kildare “in the near future.” He spoke of the county’s deep-rooted connection to St. Brigid, its vibrant communities, and its longstanding tradition of hospitality.

The Naas man presented the pope with a handcrafted Newbridge Silverware St. Brigid’s Cross. The gift symbolises peace, protection and the enduring legacy of St. Brigid.

Sen. McCarthy said that he was honoured to share the story of St Bridget with Pope Leo. He expressed the hope that the invitation to visit Kildare will be taken up soon.
