He was found by Kildare gardaí asleep in a lorry trailer

Gardaí pepper sprayed a man who had broken two windows in his grandmother’s house, it was claimed at Naas District Court.

The man was prosecuted for breaching a protection order granted at a family law hearing, on August 3, 2025, at an address in west Kildare.

Garda Declan Hayes said the gardaí received a call about a domestic dispute.

The court was told that after the windows were broken the grandmother saw the man getting into a van and the protection order had been granted a few days previously.

When the gardaí approached the man, who was asleep in a lorry trailer nearby, he spat at one of them and was detained.

The court also heard there was an allegation that the man had threatened that he would burn the house.

The court was further told that the man's father had to cut a hole in the trailer so that the gardaí could get in.

It was also stated that the defendant was very intoxicated at the time.

The code heard that the man was put of the house and ended up living in a container.

Barrister Brian Jacob said the man was addicted to drugs adn drink, is living in homeless accommodation and is trying to get a place in the Cuan Mhure addiction treatment setting.

Mr Jacob said the man had accepted he was wrong and would be willing to pay for the damage but “he barely has enough money to sustain himself.”

Mr Jacob added: “He’s a different man when he’s sober, he wants to address his addictions.”

The court was also told that he was frustrated because he had been put out of the house.

The grandmother, who was present in court, said he had not been in contact with her.

Judge John Brennan said drink and drugs have taken a hold of the defendant and she adjourned the matter to December 16 for a probation report.
