KILDARE: Motorists 'confused' by information on parking meters

There is a need to “standardise” information about pay parking machine in Naas.

That’s according to local councillor Colm Kenny, who said that information on street signs and on the new pay parking machines should specify  maximum duration of stay.

He also said that printed tickets as well as the signs on the new machines the in Friary Road car park should be clear about parking charges on Sundays.

Kildare County council official Donal Hodgins conceded there are a number of machines identified which have the incorrect maximum stay since they were installed.

He added a full check will be carried out and any anomalies will be rectified.

The maximum stay period is not displayed because the room for text on  the tickets is limited to a certain number of characters. However the signs and machines display the maximum stay “so the customer is made aware of this before buying the ticket and not afterwards.

“The expiry time  is identified on the ticket for the customer. This is also displayed on screen prior to the customer pressing “print”.”

A Naas Municipal District meeting was also told the signs and times on machines in the public car park on Friary Road (also known as Boyles car park) are as set out in bye laws adopted by the councillors who asked that facility be a 24/7 car park.
