Camogie League Division 3A

Kildare 7-11

Tyrone 1-9

A great win for Kildare Camogie’s senior team at the weekend when they had a fine win over Tyrone in Omagh in the opening round of the Very Camogie League Division 3A.

Kildare were straight out of the blocks with a goal as their first score by Aoife McDermot. Tyrone responded well and got the game back to 1-1 1-1.

Maria Doyle was forced off the pitch due to injury and allowed Martha Gilligan a chance of her debut Kildare performance.

Kildare took control of the game for the last 10 minutes of the second half with brilliant displays of link play between the six forwards and midfielders.

The defence led by Lea Sutton at centre back put serious pressure on Tyrone’s forwards which forced Tyrone to put many of their scoring chances wide.

Communication between the backs to break up the Tyrone attack from Niamh Krahn, Shauna Mulligan and Sadh Horgan was a deciding factor.

Wing back Ellla Copeland had a flurry of frees sent over the bar with ease. Kildare started their attack from puck outs from goalkeeper Éimear Sterling.

Kildare conceded a score from the first throw in of the second half but responded with a score of their own. Kildare were plagued by some unfortunate frees in the second half but never dropped the head.

Roisin Forde in midfield made sure to win ball and take it with her.

Movement from Ali Morgan, Orla Carragher and Aoife McDermot inside made great space for her and finished confidently by slitting balls over the bar and into the net.

The middle third of the pitch was commanded by Sinead O’Brien, Niamh Hegarty and Hannah Davis. Sorcha Dolan and Niamh Jenkins came on in the second half for Niamh Hegarty and Hannah Davis respectively to make an impact and injection of pace into the game.

Kildare look forward to their next game a double header in St Conleth's Park on Saturday with the camogie throwing-in at 11.30 followed by the hurlers who play Kerry in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A at 2 pm.
