KILDARE: Residents told to clean up leaves themselves

Appeal for support
The cleaning up of fallen leaves in residential places is the responsibility of the people living there.
Local councillor Carmel Kelly asked Kildare County Council to provide local groups and residents associations “with a way of collecting and disposing of leaves.”
She said Dublin City Council does this.
KCC official Mark McLoughlin replied that while the council carries out regular sweeping of leaves, this is done to keep gullies clear and “there is no budgetary provision nor personnel available to extend the service beyond this.”
He added the most sustainable method of dealing with leaves is for the residents association to compost them within the estate.
He told a Naas Municipal District meeting that there are a number of groups already doing this with support from the council.
