KWWSPCA finds new home for abandoned Collie

Second chance for Tony
Tony, is a lovely five-year-old Collie who came into our care last January. He was very anxious on arrival and it took quite a while to settle him into the shelter.
He was wary around some of our male volunteers which usually indicates a difficult experience in his past.
He reacted badly also to any urban settings, and was fearful of traffic, crowds and approaching dogs.
He was happy enough to have his basic needs met, with nice walks through the fields where he could enjoy some peace and quiet.
As kennel life was stressful, we kept Tony in our kitchen most of the time where he felt safe and enjoyed being around all of the volunteers coming and going throughout the day.
Along with all this human interaction, he received some training to build his confidence which did help him a lot.
In the normal process of rehoming our dogs we are lucky to find good homes fairly quickly. We were trying hard since January to select the home that would meet his needs fully. One that had no other dogs around, and where he could live at his own pace in a quiet rural environment.
Thankfully last week we achieved that and found the perfect home for Tony in Laois where he will enjoy a new life with just one other animal companion, a twenty eight year old horse.
It took a while, but it is so rewarding to finally find the perfect retreat for this loveable collie.
