LATEST: Kildare Co Council announces emergency road closure to repair damaged bridge

An emergency road closure is in place to carry out repairs to a bridge damaged two months ago.
A waste lorry lost control and crashed through the wall of Millicent Bridge over the River Liffey in Clane in mid-November.
Kildare Co Council said the road around the bridge will be closed to traffic until Friday at 5pm and signposted diversions are in place.
A Council statement said: "On behalf of Kildare County Council, John Craddock Ltd are implementing an emergency road closure to facilitate repair works at Millicent bridge on the L2002.
"The Millicent Road, L2002, will be closed from Firmont Cross (junction with R403) to Sallins Road, R407, from Monday morning 30th January at 08:00 to Friday 3rd February at 17:00 with local access only from either side of the bridge.
"The diversion route is on the R407 Clane Sallins Road and R403 Clane Prosperous road.
"Signs have been erected local to the bridge to advise road users of the closure."
