LATEST: Sorting of ballots underway at Kildare Count Centre at Curragh Racecourse
Local and European Elections
Sorting of ballot papers in the 2024 Local and European Elections has begun at the Curragh Racecourse this morning.
Returning Officer Eithne Coughlan gave the signal at 9am for boxes to be opened by the scores of count staff in the Champion's Hall.
Ms Coughlan also reminded tally people - who are taking an indication of where votes are being cast - that they must not distract the staff.
She also asked that children refrain from touching anything on the count tables.
Local Election ballots will be later transported to to the official Count Centre in Punchestown while the European Election ballots will move to the central Count Centre in Castlebar.
