Lidl to reveal plans for new County Kildare store at public meeting

Proposed new Lidl store will see investment of more than €10m and the creation of 25 local jobs
Members of the public are invited to attend a community meeting in Monasterevin on September 17 to find out more about Lidl’s plans for a new store in the town.
Last February, it was reported that the company had bought the former St Paul’s Secondary School building for a sum between €1m and €2m. So far, no planning application for the development has been lodged with Kildare County Council. The meeting will take place in the main hall of the Monasterevin Community Centre on Thursday, September 17 from 5pm to 7pm.
Speaking ahead of the event, Damien Ryan, Regional Property Director at Lidl Ireland said: "We are looking forward to meeting the community of Monasterevin and sharing our vision for a new store in the locality. Our goal is to provide a premium shopping environment that delivers the highest quality products at the best value on the market. Community feedback is an essential part of our planning process, and we welcome everyone to come along on Thursday evening, view the designs and discuss how our development can best serve Monasterevin."
Members of Lidl’s property team will be on hand to present detailed architectural plans, outline the project timelines and answer any questions from the public. The proposed development aims to deliver a modern, spacious supermarket built to the highest environmental and building standards, incorporating energy-efficient technologies such as solar panel installations, heat recovery systems and electric vehicle charging points.
“Lidl Ireland is deeply rooted in County Kildare, with a state-of-the-art distribution centre located in Newbridge that serves more than 60 stores across the eastern seaboard as well as 10 Lidl stores serving local communities in the county. Lidl is a major employer in the county with more than 500 colleagues across its store network and distribution centre.,” it said.
Last year, it said it procured more than €109 million worth of goods and services from 74 Kildare agri-food suppliers and business partners. Of this, €44 million worth of Kildare-made produce were exported to Lidl stores across the globe. Lidl’s Kildare suppliers include O'Brien Fine Foods, Irish Dog Foods and Green Isle Brands. Lidl donated 28,000 meals to 25 local charities in Kildare in 2025 via its FoodCloud partnership.
