Naas’ Martyn Fay won Best U21 Angler at just 14-years old at the 2023 World Cup Trout Fly Championships in Lough Mask, Mayo recently.

Fay’s success means he is the youngest participant to feature in the prizes and qualify for the final in the Championships’ 70-year history.

This year’s competition ran from August 2 to 6 and marks the 70th Anniversary of the great World Cup Fly Fishing Competition, which was first held in 1953.

The competition attracted over 400 anglers from across Ireland and overseas as they competed in the biggest event on the fly fishing calendar.

Fay’s incredible feat isn’t the only recent success at the World Cup for people from the county as Newbridge man Seamus Cash was the 2022 World Cup Winner.
