No money for pedestrian crossings in Naas

It needs to be done if 'we're serious about prioritising pedestrians'
A call has been made for two pedestrian crossings - in close proximity to each other - in Naas town centre.
Naas Mayor Bill Clear said the crossings should be provided at Poplar Square.
One is needed between the Barker & Jones bookshop and the Permanent TSB bank.
He added another is needed linking Lawlor’s Hotel to Chapel Lane.
He said Kildare County Council should begin the design work and costing processes.
However, a Naas Municipal District meeting was told that Kildare County Council has neither the staff nor the money “to progress the design and installation of an additional crossing.”
Cllr Clear that this “if we’re serious about prioritising pedestrians” this needs to be done.
Cllr Evie Sammon pointed out that there is no crossing in that area of Naas between the traffic lights at Poplar Square and the lights at the Maxol filling station.
