Over 300 people attend Croi Laighean Credit Union Christmas Jumper Dash

Over 300 enthusiastic participants from Kildare and Offaly descended on Donadea Forest Park on Sunday, December 10, transforming the serene landscape into a vibrant spectacle of festive cheer for the annual Croí Laighean Credit Union

Despite the chilly and damp morning, the spirit of the event warmed hearts as attendees, sporting an array of Christmas-themed jumpers and costumes, who gathered to support local clubs, schools, and organisations. This year, the number of attendees grew by over 40% from the previous year, a testament to the growing enthusiasm for this community-driven initiative.

Valerie Tyrrell, the Community Development Officer, and the driving force behind the Christmas Jumper Dash, expressed her delight at the overwhelming success of the event.

"We aimed to expand upon the success of last year, and the response has been beyond our expectations. This event stands as a heartfelt gesture to appreciate and support the dedicated efforts of our local community organisations."

The 5km and 10km routes through the picturesque Donadea Forest provided participants of all ages an opportunity to either embrace their competitive spirit with professional timing or enjoy a leisurely stroll amid the beautiful forest surrounding —all while donning their favourite Christmas jumpers.

Generous contributions from local establishments including Londis Clane, Daybreak Coill Dubh, Mangans' Centra Edenderry, Poppy May's Coffee and Cake, and the Pot and Pantry added to the event's success by providing refreshments that were greatly appreciated by race goers.

The Croí Laighean Credit Union Christmas Jumper Dash has firmly established itself as an annual tradition, promising a day of festive fun, community spirit, and fundraising for a worthy cause. Plans are already underway for next year's event, ensuring continued support for local initiatives and fostering a spirit of togetherness within our community.

The Croí Laighean Credit Union Christmas Jumper Dash is an annual event held in early December, aimed at supporting local clubs, schools, and organisations. Participants come together to raise funds, spread joy, and celebrate the Christmas season while adorned in their best Christmas attire. All the registration fee goes to the nominated club – so the more who participate on a club’s behalf, the more the club will get.
