Petition calling for increased garda numbers in Newbridge, County Kildare launched

An online petition has been launched calling for increased garda numbers in the town of Newbridge.

The petition was published on Change.org by Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender, who last week called on the government to address the lack of gardaí numbers.

Addressed to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and the Minister of Justice Simon Harris, Cllr Pender said in the description of the petition: "We are writing to you today to draw your attention to a pressing issue affecting the safety and security of our communities.

"Specifically, we are concerned about the need for more community policing in Newbridge to improve the overall safety of our town.

"We believe that increasing the number of gardaí assigned to our community is a critical step in addressing this issue.

"We urgently call on the government to increase the number of gardaí in Newbridge up to the national average, which will help to improve community safety.

"We believe that this increase will require the assignment of a substantial number of new and experienced gardaí to our community.

"We urge you to work together to provide the necessary resources and support to our local police force to address this issue effectively."

He concluded: "By working together, we can create a safer, more secure future for all Newbridge citizens."
