PHOTOS: Paw Patrol! Gunner the dog helping gardaí at checkpoints

Detected presence of drugs in cars
Gunner, who is 18 months old, is attached to the North Western Regional Garda Dog Unit with Galway Gardaí.

The dog detected the presence of drugs in a number of vehicles - and the drivers subsequently tested positive for illegal substances.
"Our new canine member was keeping paw and order at his first checkpoint on-duty over the weekend.

"Gunner joined us at a MIT (Mandatory Intoxicant Testing) checkpoint where we detected two drivers that tested positive at the roadside for the presence of drugs.
"One vehicle was seized for having no insurance, while several other drivers were issued with fines and penalty points for a range of road traffic offences.

"Gunner has a good nose for the job, and you can expect to see much more of him.
"The objective of this high-visibility policing activity is to promote awareness and deter drug use, search for drugs and deter both drink and drug-driving."
