West Wicklow politician Edward Timmins is to seek the Fine Gael nomination to fight for a seat in the next General Election.

Cllr Timmins said: “I wish to seek the nomination to run for Fine Gael in the next General Election. I have had the honour of being a Fine Gael county councillor for 20 years. I was elected to Wicklow County Council for the first time in June 2004, was re-elected in 2009, 2014, 2019 and most recently in 2024.”

He added: “I possess vast experience in the workings of the council and County Wicklow. I bring extensive business experience as an engineering graduate and chartered accountant having worked for many years in senior finance roles in small companies and multinationals.”

He also lived and worked in France, Germany and Switzerland and learnt the languages.

He added that as a councillor he prioritised devolving funding to districts and allowing councillors to have more say over spending.

“I introduced the monthly managers report which is now central to the running of council meetings. I have always championed the needs of small and medium enterprises and more efficient use of public money. I have been a most effective advocate for improving planning for local people in rural areas and removing restrictions on house buying in Wicklow.”
