Twelve new probationer gardaí allocated to Kildare North

The allocations have been made to stations in Leixlip and Naas
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and Kildare North TD, James Lawless, has welcomed the allocation of 12 new probationer Gardaí to stations in Kildare North following an attestation ceremony at the Garda College in Templemore on Friday, July 24 2026.
Nine of the new Gardaí will be assigned to Leixlip and three to Naas, as part of an overall allocation of 19 probationer Gardaí to the Kildare/Carlow Division.
In total, 206 new Gardaí attested today (July 24) - 142 men and 64 women, in one of the largest intakes in recent years.
Speaking following the announcement, Minister Lawless said: "I want to congratulate every one of the 206 new Gardaí who attested in Templemore today, and to welcome the news that 12 of them will be taking up duty in Naas and Leixlip.
"Both towns have grown significantly in recent years, and additional Garda presence on the ground is something residents and local businesses have consistently raised with me. Nine new Gardaí for Leixlip and three for Naas is a welcome strengthening of policing across Kildare North.
"I want to acknowledge the work of Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O'Callaghan, and the Garda Commissioner in maintaining a steady stream of recruitment through the Garda College. Sustained intakes like this one are what allow Garda numbers to build in communities like ours.
"These recruits have made a personal commitment to public service, and I wish them every success as they begin their careers."
The allocation of probationer Gardaí across divisions will also allow for consequential transfers to other divisions nationwide.
