Woman allegedly made false report to gardaí, Kildare court told

NEWBRIDGE
A woman is being prosecuted for allegedly making a false report to Kildare gardaí.
The allegation relates to one Margaret O'Brien, with an address listed as 867 Piercetown in Newbridge.
Gardaí told Judge Desmond Zaidan about the accusation against the 25-year-old at Naas District Court on Thursday, October 5 last.
It was alleged by gardaí that Ms O'Brien reported two Rolex watches as stolen to gardaí from her home during the course of a burglary.
Garda Sergeant Mary Meade said that one watch is worth an estimated €10,000, while the other watch is worth between €3,000 and €5,000.
ALLEGED CAB SEARCH
However, she added that following an alleged search by the Criminal Assets Bureau on her home in 2021, two watches were seized, which matched the description of the ones she allegedly reported as being stolen.
Sgt Meade further said that gardaí believe that the accused allegedly committed the offence in order to gain insurance money.
After being read a description of the offence, which was listed as a summary disposal by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Judge Zaidan accepted jurisdiction over the case, but accepted that he was of the belief that the accusation was serious.
The judge adjourned the case to February 1, 2024, for hearing.
He also remanded Ms O'Brien on continuing bail until the case resumes.
