The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced funding of €2.6 million to support the development of a wide range of Town Centre First projects.

This funding will assist local authorities in creating a pipeline of significant, well-developed projects in local towns across Ireland.

A total of 53 projects will be supported with up to €50,000 of funding per project.

This funding will support pre-development works for projects and support costs including detailed design, planning, procurement, professional fees, assessments and other development costs.

Two projects have been supported in Co Kildare:

  • €45,000 for Clane

A project to engage consultants to prepare appropriate pre-development plans including for the proposed

expansion of existing recreational routes and the potential of connected routes that could be used for

hiking, cycling and mountain biking.

€34,335 for Monasterevin

Project relates to the redevelopment a space in the town centre which is currently car dominated -

providing a mix of cultural and commercial offerings with quality paving, improved signage, seating and

lighting. The project elements include consultancy costs to secure planning consents, public consultation

and surveys.

Announcing the funding, Minister Humphreys said:
