Kildare students have been urged to part in this year’s Bord Gais Energy Student Theatre Awards which were launched today by actress Amy Huberman.

The annual gongs celebrate drama in schools around Ireland.

The popular actress, and mum of two also revealed that she will be joining the judging panel for this year’s awards.

Kildare have a proud history at the Bord Gais Energy Student Theatre Awards after Kildare school, St. Laurence’s National School in Athy took home the top accolade in the Best Overall School Play category their production of ‘I’m Sleeping Booty, Get Me Out of Here!’ at last year’s awards in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

The judges chose St. Laurence’s as the winner as they found their production to be creative, colourful and highly entertaining. They were also hugely impressed that the play had been written and directed by the pupils themselves.

The Bord Gais Energy Student Theatre Awards are open to primary school students from 3rd – 6th class and all secondary school students.

There are 12 categories deadline for entries for this year’s competition is January 29.
