Annual walk expected to raise thousands

The Tony Smith Memorial Walk is expected to raise in excess of €5,000 for Maynooth Senior Citizens Committee.
The Annual Walk is organised by Maynooth Labour Branch and all funds raised go directly to the Maynooth Senior Citizens Committee who use it in their various supports for senior citizens in the area.
The Walk was led off from McMahons on Main Street, Maynooth, at 3 pm on Sunday last by Deputy Emmet Stagg, Cllr. John McGinley and Ellie Leavey and then proceeded up Carton Avenue and into Carton Estate.
The Sponsored Walk was first held in 1979 and was the idea of the then Treasurer of Maynooth Labour Branch, Tony Smith, who wanted to assist the senior citizens of the Town. Tony died tragically at the age of 33 in 1982 and the Walk was then renamed in his honour.
The proceeds of the Walk will be handed over to the Maynooth Senior Citizens Committee at their Annual Christmas Party in December.
