Concern Worldwide is pleased to announce it had one winner from Athy at the recent Concern Volunteer Awards 2017.

Emmanuel George (pictured with his family) has volunteered with Concern Schools Debates programme for nearly 13 years and lives in Athy with his family.

Emmanuel, who is originally from Nigeria, received the Debates Award at the ceremony, which took place at Concern's head offices in Dublin last Saturday (May 27th).

His tireless dedication to the ethos of the Debates and the principles to which it stands for, has seen him travelling near and far to adjudicate. It is due to his enthusiasm and support of the debates that his daughter Barbara became involved as an adjudicator also in recent years.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO of Concern Dominic MacSorley said Emmanuel 'embodies the true meaning of selfless volunteerism and is a worthy recipient of this award.'
