Both Maynooth sides face tough fixtures as Sigerson and Fitzgibbon draws are made

The draw was made for the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon cups today in Croke Park. Ireland's premier Higher Education Football Championships was first on the agenda as names were pulled for the Sigerson cup opening rounds.

The venue for games has been assigned to SETU Waterford and on Tuesday January 10 it will be an opening game against National University of Galway (NUIG) for Maynooth University. A tough opening draw for the Kildare college but they are sure to remain confident following a league win this year for Davy Burke's side. With stars like Kildare Senior club footballer of the year Dermot Hanafin and Naas teammate and county forward Darragh Kirwan also to return to college action following their club exploits.

The hurlers were next and Maynooth were placed in a group in Group C alongside University College Cork (UCC) and University College Dublin (UCD) with the first round of Fitzgibbons cup games scheduled for Group C falling on Thursday January 19.
