BREAKING: Local area evacuated as Gardaí and Army Bomb disposal unit at incident in Sallins
Local area sealed off
Gardaí and bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces are at the scene of an incident in Sallins.
A suspicious device was discovered by a fisherman at the Grand Canal.
The area has been evacuated and local road closures are in place.
A Garda statement to the Leinster Leader said: "Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of a suspicious device by the Grand Canal in Sallins, Co Kildare at approximately 3:30pm earlier today, Wednesday, 8th of May 2024.
"The services of the Army Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been requested.
"The surrounding area has been evacuated in order to facilitate the work of the Army EOD."
