Call for junction in Kildare to be redesigned by KCC

The request was made by a councillor representing the Athy Municipal District
A councillor called for Kildare County Council (KCC) to redesign a junction located in South Kildare.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian Dooley made the call when he appeared by virtual means at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, October 20 last.
Specifically, he motioned for KCC to redesign the Barrow Quay Junction, Athy, "by reducing the pedestrian area which had been taken up by a piece of infrastructure since removed, creating two lanes with a left and right filter lane."
His motion was seconded by Labour Party Cllr Aoife Breslin.
Elaborating on his motion, Cllr Dooley said that there is "a large piece of ground" in the area that "juts out".
"I would like to sit down [with KCC] and examine this area," he added.
Cllr Breslin also agreed with his sentiments, adding: "This area needs an overall [renewed] approach."
