Calls for study into how trees impact these Kildare estates

Cllr Paul Brooks (FG) put forward his motion at a recent MD meeting

A Fine Gael councillor has called for a study of how trees impact traffic and reduce lighting at night on main avenues in both Glen Easton and Riverforest Estates in Leixlip, Co Kildare.

Cllr Paul Brooks tabled his motion at a meeting of Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District on Friday, June 20 last.

In its report, the council stated that a programme of works is undertaken every year to improve any issues in relation to how trees impact traffic and reduce lighting, including a combination of pruning and tree removal.

The council agreed to assess both locations and see what works if any are required to address the issues raised.

The local authority noted, however, that these issues need to be considered “in relation to the benefits trees present in slowing traffic, improving air quality, biodiversity and mitigating climate change.”

Additionally, the report concluded, the opinions that the public hold in relation to management of trees must also be considered.
