A car was stolen from outside a house in Naas and used for joyriding, it was claimed at the local district court.

A juvenile, who cannot be identified because of his age, was charged in connection with the incident and appeared by videolink from a detention centre.

Sgt Brian Jacob said the car was taken at Hillside and the lock was not working.

He added that the incident happened at 1.05am on August 1, 2023.

The court was told a number of youths were involved and the defendant was identified from CCTV footage.

It was also stated that the others involved are not known and “no assistance” was provided.

Judge Desmond Zaidansaid the defendant does not have to assist a garda investigation.

He refused jurisdiction which means that the case will be heard in the circuit court.

The matter was adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence.
