A Clane man has been awarded the Pharmacist Contribution to the Community Award for his outstanding service to the town of Clane. The awards are organised to contribute to the Pharmacy Benevolent Fund which helps pharmacists who may have fallen into financial difficulty.

Des Marron of Marron's Pharmacy in Clane was bestowed with the Pharmacist Contribution to the Community Award, sponsored by Pinewood,  in recognition of his beneficence and dedication with the judges saying, “This octogenarian has been involved in nearly everything good to come out of Clane, over the last 70 years."

"His lifetime involvement includes being an integral part the church choir, musical society, drama group, tennis & badminton clubs, golf classics, Special Olympics, tidy towns, and Kare which promotes inclusion for those with intellectual difficulties.”

Newstalk radio presenter Pat Kenny was MC on the night and presented Mr. Marron with his award.

Mr Marron was one of nine pharmacists honoured at last night’s annual Helix Health Pharmacist Awards, which aim to celebrate pharmacy and raise awareness of the outstanding work being undertaken by pharmacists across the country.

Pharmacists in the community, industry and hospital sectors across the country also received recognition at the event for their contribution to the Irish pharmacy sector.
