Co Kildare owners of a missing dog are left heartbroken following an alleged  scam on DoneDeal over the weekend, claiming to have found their beloved Missy in Monasterevin.

The owners of a Co Kildare family pet are desperately appealing for her safe return with fears that she has been stolen.Mary Rigney (20)  and her boyfriend Daniel Casey (21) are terribly upset about the loss of their much loved dog.

Missy, a two-year-old mix of a German Shepherd and Husky, is missing for several weeks now.  It is understood that the dog went missing at about 8.30pm at the Prosperous/Allenwood/ Dagswelds/ Robertstown area,on Thursday, March 23 last . At the weekend, a lady calling from a private number gave them assurances that she found a dog, fitting the description of Missy. They were told to collect the dog as soon as possible outside Supermacs in  Monasterevin.

Mr Casey and his sister proceeded to travel to Monasterevin immediately. However, when they arrived and called the same number back, a woman answered and they claim, she said she did not know what they were talking about. There was noone to meet them in Monasterevin.

The incident has been reported to Gardaí.

Mary first got Missy when she was just three months old. On the night of Missy's alleged theft, as the couple were driving into their home, they saw Missy's eyes in the glare of the car lights.

She was not in her pen and then there was a sighting of two men. Daniel Casey followed them through a field and saw a dog being lifted over a barbed wire fence.

Mary said: "I want her home, she is part of the family. I just want her home so I can give her a big cuddle. I will keep up the fight until we get her back. "

The dog is microchipped but has not been neutered.

A vet has advised the owners that if Missy gives birth, then she is likely to die, as her hips will not be strong enough.

Missy has a distinctive tail with grey at the end.

There are reported sightings of Missy  in the Leixlip area, recently. and also  on the motorway  and M4 then again at Hewlett Packard. There is  also another reported  sighting around Intel and the Topaz Grange Castle Service Station, Nangor Road, Clondalkin.
