Concerns raised over named dangerous junctions across Kildare

Ten locations have been identified
Rules governing how dangerous junctions are made safer will be used to address a list of ten problem areas in Kildare.
They are: Dag Weld's Cross, Prosperous Village, Allenwood Cross, Firmount Cross, Cloncurry Cross, Bert's Cross, Perry Street Cross, Watchhouse Cross, Thompson's Cross and Allen Cross.
A Kildare County Council meeting was told by official Celina Barrett that road safety improvement projects are done by the Department of Transport using established criteria.
This prompted criticism from Newbridge councillor Tom McDonnell who complained that lists of improvements needed are drawn up but "nothing is done.2
He questioned, at a Kildare County Council meeting, the points of having a local authority or councillors.
He claimed that too often KCC says that works can’t be done and that some projects are awaiting remedy for three to four years.
Mr Barrett said the department uses criteria known as “location of interest” and this is applied nationally.
She also said that work on Allenwood will be seen to get underway shortly and she also said that some junctions, like Dag Weld’s Cross “are extremely complex.”
Ms Barrett suggested that a presentation on the issue will be provided for the councillors which will illustrate how the projects are dealt with.
