Council to consider employing security firm for Maynooth playground due to anti-social behaviour

Kildare County Council have stated that they will consider employing a security company to open and close the playground in Maynooth, due to the anti-social behaviour reported from the community amenity.
Cllr Tim Durkan raised the issue at a meeting of the Maynooth Municipal District, asking that the Maynooth Municipal District and all interested parties take urgent action to stamp out the serious anti-social behaviour taking place in Maynooth Playground.
The council outlined that a security company had previously been employed to open and close the park, but they will consider employing it again due to the recent issues recorded.
“Last year a security company was employed for a number of months to open and close the playground,” read a council report.
“This was to resolve antisocial behaviour and was successful in achieving this. This arrangement terminated earlier in the summer and no incidences had been reported or noted until last week. In order to resolve this issue the council will employ a security company to commence opening and closing again but do not have the resources to do this indefinitely.
“Therefore the council need assistance from the community in Maynooth to do this long term. The council will engage with the Maynooth Community Council, Maynooth Planning Alliance to see if this is possible. Additionally greater support from the An Garda Siochána is required to assist with this recurring problem.”
